The Moroccan Fly

Our little family travelled to Marrakech this spring, et voilà, we all brought home the perfect Moroccan souvenir. Lightweight and treacherously comfortable, these tunics are perfect for lounging around the garden or the beach (or the Sahara Desert) on a balmy summer day.

We loved shopping the artisanat shops of the Marrakech souks, and so we knew that we had to bring something home! This cute little boutique, Warda La Mouche (the name means "Rose the fly"), embodies the kitschy, non-traditional Moroccan style sense that is symptomatic in this European-flavoured desert city. Here, tunics, caftans, and djellabas are crafted in colourful Liberty-style prints with a smattering of embroidery here and there.

Blink and you might miss the store on Rue Riad Zitoun El Jedid on the southeastern part of the medina.

Fashionable place to wear your tunic: Majorelle Garden on Avenue Yacoub el-Mansour in the Ville Nouvelle, Marrakech. The villa was formerly owned by painter Jacques Majorelle but later purchased and skillfully restored by Yves Saint-Laurent and Pierre Bergé.

Thanks for your lovely comment - I'm so glad you left it, because I've know found both your terrific blogs! Those tunics are beautiful... my husband and I were actually considering Marrakesh in September, but we were worried it would be too touristy and went to Tunisia instead. I'm sure it wouldn't have made a huge different though, considering most souks there were filled with touristy souvenir shops (except in Sfax), so Morocco is definitely still on my to-go list. Your little ones look so adorable by the way!

P.S. Let me know if you'd be interested in exchanging links :)

Oh my, what a cutie pie she is! She looks so pretty in those bright colors! I love the fabric of the dress and the embroidery on the white shirt! If that was my husband's shirt I don't think he would ever get to wear it because I'd claim it:-)

Have a great weekend and hope you are feeling well!

Hi Jen-- I know we've been Twitter pals for some time, but I'm just now discovering your fashion blog. So good! (1) Are these your kids? Because they are so adorable in their outfits. (2) The Moroccan embroidered threads look so amazing. I have always wanted to check out Marrakesh. xx D
